Having originated from Madhubani district in the Mithila district of Bihar, Madhubani Art is counted as one of India's most cherished traditional art forms. As the name suggests, the form of Indian painting emerged from in and around the vicinity of Mysore in the south Indian state of Karnataka. It is believed that the kings of Mysore endorsed the form of painting. Most Mysore paintings depict Hindu Gods and Goddesses, spiritual heads and leaders of Hindu mythology. This form of painting thrived under the reign of the Mughal dynasty, anywhere between 16th and 18th century. However, according to history records, it is believed that miniature paintings came into being in the 7th century.
